Steering locked on? Try this before calling for help.

June 7, 2019, 6:27 p.m.

The steering lock feature is common to all cars.
It is an anti - theft mechanism that is engaged when the steering wheel is turned while the car is turned off and the key is out of the ignition.

If you find that you cant turn your key in the ignition and the steering wheel does not move it is very likely that your steering lock is on.
The way to disengage this is with you foot on the brake, insert the key in the ignition and turn it gently as you are doing this apply pressure on your steering wheel by pulling down with your left hand as if turning left while at the same time turning the key in the ignition.

It may take a couple of tries and may also depend on which way your steering wheel may need to be turned to release it, try to avoid rocking the steering wheel back and forth as you are attempting it.

Once it has worked the steering wheel should be free, and the vehicle should now be able to be started.

Drive safe!!
